Nine ARIAs. Multi-platinum sales. Half a billion global streams. Songs embedded in the national consciousness.
The legacy of the Hilltop Hoods is already undeniable. They helped creat hip hop as a local genre in Australia.
‘1955’ and ‘Cosby Sweater’ reached the top five in the ARIA charts and have both reached six-times platinum status. The smash ‘I Love It’ went five-times platinum. They opened the door for countless acts from all over Australia through their mentoring, touring and their annual Initiative for emerging acts.
Every studio album from 2006’s The Hard Road onwards has debuted at number one – they even picked up a number one debut for their recent Remix album (Drinking From The Sun Walking Under Stars Restrung). They’ve consistently racked up multi-platinum sales in an era when the industry is seeing sales dwindle across the board. They’ve also been a consistent and powerful live act throughout Australia, Canada and Europe, and even took hip hop back to its birthplace in the US.
Five-time Grammy Award nominee SZA, entered the music scene in 2012 with her first critically-acclaimed EP ‘See.SZA.Run.’ consecutively followed by ‘Sand Z’ to rave reviews. In 2017, SZA released her major label debut album ‘CTRL’ (certified RIAA PLATINUM) which was immediately revered for its raw and honest lyricism. The record deservingly landed #1 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart, #2 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart and # 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.
SZA’s polished artistry and song-writing talents extend far beyond her own projects having wrote and performed on Rihanna’s single ‘Consideration’ and in 2014, SZA helped write Nicki Minaj and Beyonce’s smash single ‘Feelin Myself’. In 2018, SZA stunned local audiences with her sold out Australian debut headline shows and now returns to perform at Splendour in the Grass.
From playing chaotic house parties in Oxford to becoming major festival headliners across Europe, Foals are now preparing to bring their compelling live show to Australia. “We’ve shed different skins as a band,” reflects frontman/guitarist Yannis Philippakis “We’ve played underground house parties…rock festivals… we’ve lived a lot of lives.”
The same can be said of their music. Foals again embrace a love for the unconventional with the bravest and most ambitious project of their career yet, with a pair of releases, separate but related: ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost’. Part 1 is out now with Part 2 to follow in the Spring. “They can be listened to and appreciated individually, but fundamentally they are companion pieces.” states Philippakis. The album finds Foals leaping into new territory: exploratory, progressive-tinged tracks make the music an experience rather than a collection of songs. Just wait ‘till you hear it live in the Amphitheatre!
Catfish and the Bottlemen are practically of “no fixed abode” due to near constant touring and recording since 2014, when their platinum-certified debut album ‘The Balcony’ surfaced.
Their Splendour announcement comes after a triumphant summer that saw them command headline slots across major festivals in the UK, Europe and the United States.
Audiences from Manchester to Melbourne, London to Los Angeles, Newcastle to New York, and everywhere in between have been engulfed by the swell of eager sentiment propelled from a vociferous fanbase. Catfish and the Bottlemen possess a magnetic and dynamic focal point, renowned for posing every day, easily-identifiable observations through their lyrics.

The Streets is Mike Skinner, a native of Birmingham/Barnet in the UK – a rapper, producer, DJ, singer, writer and actor who happens to have made some of the most important British music of this millennium.
His debut album “Original Pirate Material”, released in 2002 is widely regarded to have changed the face of British rap music, and his second album “A Grand Don’t Come For Free” was a worldwide success spawning hit singles like “Fit But You Know It” and “Dry Your Eyes”.

Each song on the record was entirely produced, mixed, mastered, engineered, written and record by Russ himself. The diverse 20 track album achieved a number of multi-platinum and gold certification singles, including both of his Billboard Hot 100-charting tracks ‘What They Want’ and ‘Losin Control’.
Russ recently released his sophomore record ‘ZOO’, this time opting to enlist external producers and featured artists such as Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg.
When What So Not rolled out a giant chrome horse on monster truck wheels during his headlining Coachella set last year, it was his boldest reminder yet that he doesn’t play by the rules. Now, with the arrival of his debut album, ‘Not All the Beautiful Things’, he continues to blaze his own trail, forging a complete vision for what is now much more than just a dance music project.
Over 3 years in the making, ‘Not All the Beautiful Things’ is a culmination of everything the Australian-born artist behind such massive anthems as “High You Are” (50 million-plus streams), “Waiting” (with Skrillex and RL Grime), and his remix of RUFUS du Sol’s “Innerbloom” (#30 on Triple J’s Hottest 100 list for 2016) has been working towards as he’s built his reputation as one of the most innovative producers in the game.
What So Not promises it’s just the beginning of what fans can expect from this exciting new phase of his evolution.
Courtney Barnett is one of the most distinctive and compelling voices in indie rock, a singer-songwriter who mixes deeply insightful observations with devastating self-assessment. With countless awards in her home of Australia as well as Grammy and BRIT nominations, fawning press and an adoring audiences, Barnett’s rise to global prominence feels both unprecedented and important.
Music fans have rarely witnessed the breathless acclaim and superlatives that comprised reviews of Barnett’s debut album “Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Think”. 2017 saw the release of “Lotta Sea Lice”, an introspective but beautiful album with Kurt Vile and a gorgeous place-holder while we awaited the release of sophomore album “Tell Me How You Really Feel”.
While her lyrics continue to encompass the poetic, political and personal, “Tell Me…” reveals a startling new lyrical economy. Her increasingly unusual song-structures, timbres and moods hint at future ambition while her glorious, feed-back heavy live show has eviscerated audiences on 5 continents.
Four-piece band from California, Warpaint have a unique brand of intricate guitar lines, hypnotic vocals and driving post punk rhythms which combine to create a unique sound.

With two albums under their belt, Lost Tropics (2016) and the critically acclaimed Chiaroscuro (2018) which peaked at #11 on the ARIA Chart and spawned the triple j Hottest 100 #1 and ARIA Top 10 Platinum- certified single ‘Confidence’, the band have captivated audiences worldwide with their infectious blend of psychedelic surf-rock, selling out slews of shows wherever they play. They’ve also gone on to amass over 60 million catalogue streams, as well as attaining more than 1.4 million monthly Spotify listeners.
If anyone deserves to break the shackles and enjoy the moment, it’s multi-platinum-selling musician Matt Corby. For a decade, Corby has been pushing his own boundaries, embracing a journey of self-discovery that’s seen him wrestle a few pre-conceptions and stare down his share of demons. Now, with two ARIA Song of the Year awards on the shelf, and a #1 debut album, ‘Telluric’, behind him, Corby can genuinely lay claim to some hard-earned perspective.
None of which is to suggest Corby’s new album, ‘Rainbow Valley’, isn’t clever or prone to making people feel good. It is both, and then some. From the surreal, dreamlike splendour of first single “No Ordinary Life” – which was met with worldwide acclaim and high-rotation on triple j – to the soulful majesty of the title track, ‘Rainbow Valley’ reveals an artist who seems both more aware of what he wants and why he wants it.
Many like minds answered the call. Wolf Alice’s 2015 gold-certified debut album ‘My Love Is Cool’ hit No 2 in the UK charts in June of that year, and No 12 on the Billboard alternative albums chart in the US: that’s the sort of success most young guitar bands wait years to achieve. Wolf Alice were nominated for the Mercury prize, Ivor Novello Award, a Brit and Grammy, and took an NME Award for Best Live Band, hitting the road and traversing the globe for two years as a result.
The band’s acclaimed second album ‘Visions Of A Life’, which debuted in the UK charts at number two, is fundamentally a personal album, and one of great growth for Wolf Alice. From opener ‘Heavenward’ through to the epic, eight-minute closing title track, it’s packed with surprises for those who think they know what Wolf Alice’s shtick is. Witness their explosive live show at Splendour!
Friendly Fires – comprised of Ed Macfarlane, Edd Gibson and Jack Savidge – returned to the recorded music and live arenas in 2018 following a hiatus, to remind us all exactly why we fell in love with them in the first place. First came the anthemic comeback single ‘Love Like Waves’ which was met with widespread acclaim. Then launching into a summer of high profile festival appearances (not to mention a sold out headline show at London’s legendary, 5000 capacity Brixton Academy), Friendly Fires would go on to headline some of the UK’s best loved in addition to show-stealing performances if front of hundreds of thousands of fans around the world. They capped the year off with their crossover anthem ‘Heaven Let Me In’, which was co-produced with Disclosure and featured acclaimed British actor Jeremy Irvine in the video. Born into an exceptionally musical family, Georgia and Caleb had their breakthrough as BROODS with the 2014 single “Bridges.” That track appeared on their full-length debut ‘Evergreen’, an album that debuted at #1 on the New Zealand Albums Chart and #5 on the Australian Albums Chart. They’ve gone on to support the likes of Sam Smith on a sold-out US tour and have also played leading festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza and Outside Lands.
They come to Splendour armed with a new record, the title of which may sound like a warning, but it’s really a self-reminder. Having recently endured some major label shake-ups, the duo brought ‘Don’t Feed the Pop Monster’ to life with very limited resources but ultimately created their most fully realized album to date. After years of attempting to artfully navigate the pop landscape, the New Zealand-bred duo decided to drop all pretence and get back to embracing their purest and strangest instincts.
Multi-platinum Sydney singer-songwriter Dean Lewis was on a plane when he heard a phrase that struck him like a bolt of lightning. “An in-flight-radio DJ said, ‘I wish that was a place we’d known about’,” recalls the Sydney singer-songwriter. “I went to my notes and wrote ‘A Place We Knew’ and was like, that’s the album title. That ties everything together.”
Released in March 2019, Lewis’ beautiful debut features hit singles ‘Be Alright,’ ‘7 Minutes’ and ‘Stay Awake’. It blew up airwaves as Triple J’s feature album, and also debuted #1 on the ARIA Album chart!
Farther afield, Dean recently performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live and has a sold-out headline tour in the USA to his name. ‘A Place We Knew’ debuted at #18 on the Billboard Top 200 in the USA, as well a
FIDLAR have become of the premiere names in the punk rock scene since emerging in 2011 with their debut EP. They were notorious around Los Angeles for getting wrecked, having run-ins with the cops, and singing about cheap beer.
Since then, they’ve graced festival stages worldwide including St Jeromes Laneway Festival, Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and Reading and Leeds.
FIDLAR make their return to the Splendour stage armed with anticipated third album, ‘Almost Free’. It bears a raw vitality that FIDLAR partly attributes to a certain lightning-in-a-bottle element in its construction. It touches on many of the tragedies of modern life: existential dread, gentrification, the inescapable sway of the super-rich, post-breakup telecommunication, and the loneliness of sobriety.
Wacky as ever, FIDLAR have been surging the stage for almost ten years now with all their punch and audacity. You want a wild show? FIDLAR is here for you.

As Tycho, Scott Hansen blends swirling melodies into triumphant arcs that crisscross between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating rolling sonic landscapes that extend into the horizon.
Hansen began releasing music over 15 years ago with ‘The Science of Patterns’ EP. Detroit wunderkind Kyle Hall has been actively involved in the house music scene since age 11, when local legend DJ Raybone Jones taught him how to spin records. Subsequently, under the auspices of such notable mentors as Rick Wilhite (Three Chairs) and Mike Huckaby, Hall developed a rich understanding of the city’s deep house underground. By his early teens, Hall was already performing radio and club shows around the area.
Hall’s first break as a producer came at age 16, when he was approached by deep house luminary Omar-S, whose FXHE label released his debut record and introduced his music to a wider audience for the first time. Since then, Hall has enjoyed continued support from Omar-S, whose recent Fabric radio mix consisted solely of Kyle Hall productions. Thus, having enlisted the support of the Motor City’s house elite, the stage was set for Hall to gain recognition as a respected artist in his own right.
If you distilled California into soundwaves and vibrations, it might resemble the sonic and spiritual interplay of Los Angeles quintet Local Natives. Hills and valleys of six-string bliss, a coastal spray of neon keyboards, and sundrenched melodies comprise a growing catalogue of entrancing and engaging anthems by the band.
Local Natives have progressed their sound over the course of four full-length albums, ‘Gorilla Manor’, ‘Hummingbird’, ‘Sunlit Youth’ and most recently ‘Violet Street’, an ode to LA and the spirit of the city in all of its widescreen splendour.
In between countless sold out shows and festival appearances – including a standout Coachella 2017 set – they’ve graced the stages of Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and The Late Late Show With James Corden.

Here them in all their glory at Splendour 2019!
Some DJs burst upon the scene like a supernova, fading just as quickly. Others take years, even decades, to make their way—but those are the ones who make the most impact. Mike Servito is a prime example of the latter. He’s perfected a jacking style that equal parts house, acid and techno, a sound that pays homage to the past while being very much of-the-moment.
He’s cemented his status as one of the most respected spinners around, regularly manning the decks at such hallowed halls as Berlin’s Panorama Bar, London’s XOYO and Tokyo’s Contact, not to mention the world’s best festivals—including, of course Movement. And to this day, his approach to deejaying is refreshingly simple: “I really don’t think about it,” he says, “When I’m playing, I just dive in, and I’m OK.” He’s far more than okay—he’s one of the best around.
The huge success of their first two albums, 2012’s ‘In A Million Years’ (Top 10 Australian ARIA Chart), and 2015’s ‘Wellness’ established Last Dinosaurs as stalwarts of the international indie rock scene and as one of Australia’s greatest indie-pop exports. Selling out shows across Australia as well as huge headlining tours and festival plays across the UK and Europe, SE Asia and South Africa, Last Dinosaurs also supported international acts such as Foals, Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party and Foster the People and made appearances at festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Laneway, Falls Festival and Field Day to name a few.
Much to the delight of fans across the world, 2018 saw the release of third album, ‘Yumeno Garden’. The first two singles ‘Dominos’ and ‘Eleven’ went straight to high rotation on Triple J, while the album tour sold out multiple venues in each city across the country. In December, Last Dinosaurs announced their first ever US tour, with the first round of shows in LA, Chicago and LA selling out in under a minute!
Thelma Plum is an award winning (NIMA, Unearthed) storyteller and a creator. Bravery, strength and resilience are not often the first things you attach to her brand of sophisticated folk music – but they should be. Thelma takes you on her journey down the garden path, and along the way shows you her world; both magical and sweet, but also equally scathing. Thelma’s divine melodies ease you into her universe, her stories detail the surroundings and her songs make you want to stay. Her new single is ‘Not Angry Anymore,’ which follows 2018’s ‘Clumsy Love.’
Her latest work could be posed as a pleasant and easy trip, you’re lulled into its catchy nature; but you’re quickly snapped back if you do not pay attention.
After a massive year off the back of their critically acclaimed third full length album ‘The American Dream’, Trophy Eyes and their heart wrenching rock anthems continue to roll with a rapidly building global swell, appearing on some of their biggest tours and festival appearances to date. After steadily making a name for himself amongst Australia’s bubbling electronic underground, Harvey Sutherland began to make international waves in 2013 with a series of successful 12” records. Blending a broad array of crate-digging influences, his initial EPs have been championed by international tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Jamie xx and The Black Madonna.
Sold-out shows with his impeccable live band followed around the world – including Glastonbury Festival, Nuits Sonores, Meredith Music Festival, Splendour In The Grass and Freedom Time – alongside some unique side-projects: he performed an original cinematic disco suite alongside the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, as well as directing a tour with an 11-piece band in support of New York boogie icon Leroy Burgess.
From the time Harvey Sutherland began making music, he was influenced by dance music, but not comfortable inside its rules. Still rooted in soul, disco and funk, the modern techno universe was not exactly where he fit – and so Harvey Sutherland has created one of his own.
Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer K.Flay sticks to a powerful, passionate, and positive message, which was forged in a decade-long diligent grind, marked by a series of acclaimed releases.
Most recently, K.Flay released her new single “Bad Vibes”, which was produced by Tommy English (Ariana Grande, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Kasey Musgraves). It showcases her signature clever quips between a siren swell of synths, thick percussion, and an unshakable and undeniable chant.
GRAMMY Award nominations, millions of streams and praise from the likes of Billboard, Nylon and The Fader, as well as collaborations with legendary Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello, Linkin Park co-frontman, Mike Shinoda and FIDLAR – it’s fair to say K.Flay has carved her own lane with her unique style.
Last year Sam Fender signed with Polydor Records and released the heartfelt Dead Boys EP. It was a short collection of razor-smart songs that did enough to convince industry heads to vote Sam their BRITs Critics’ Choice for 2019, following the likes of Adele, Florence & The Machine and Sam Smith. This year that momentum has continued at pace; bigger shows are selling out, bigger, bolder songs are being written, and with a debut album almost complete, Sam Fender remains the young British songwriter most likely to. It’s not just his fans and critics that are touched by the tunes, there’s an edge to Fender’s songs that can also make him tremble. Sam’s song-writing is for impassioned observations about the state of the world around us, socially-pertinent, simply relayed.
Since first bursting out of the UK pub scene in 2012, Slaves have gone onto become of the UK’s most ferocious live bands. Slaves has been built on a rejection of rules and it’s served them well since the release of their Mercury nominated debut album ‘Are You Satisfied?’ in 2015.
But no longer content railing against the status quo, they wanted to smash their own self-created system on album number three. Titled ‘Acts Of Fears And Love’, the record is not what you’ve come to expect from the duo and yet it also feels like an amalgamation of everywhere they’ve been to date. It’s a short sharp blast of intent, not pandering to expectations but a clear-eyed portrayal of how the band see the world in 2018.
Renowned for their totally raucous brand of high energy punk, don’t miss your chance to scream along to Slaves’ anthemic sounds at Splendour 2019.

They’ve since been touring the world non-stop, and don’t look like slowing down anytime soon!

Dive into their debut album “Surrender” for a start. Their live show debuts in May across a sold out tour of Australia and New Zealand before heading to Splendour in the Grass 2019.
On her debut EP ‘Sugar & Spice’ – the 2018 release that prompted Pitchfork to dub her the “dream-pop idol of tomorrow” – Hatchie delivered the sonic equivalent of falling deliriously in love: a sustained rush of feeling, swoony melodies and gauzy guitar tones.
Now, with her full-length debut ‘Keepsake’, the Australian singer/songwriter explores everything from industrial to new wave to dance-pop, handling each with understated elegance and pure, powerful feeling. On lead single ‘Without a Blush’, jagged guitar riffs and woozy rhythms meet in a sprawling piece of industrial-pop, with Hatchie’s gorgeously airy voice channeling loss and longing, regret and self-doubt.

Formed in a North Carolina dormitory in 2012, The Nude Party celebrates the clanging frat rock of the ‘60s. Originating as an extended group of childhood friends and step-siblings who decided to start a band and then began learning to play instruments, The Nude Party took root at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.
Soon after coming together, the sextet soon moved into a lake house and started a nightly ritual of jamming in the basement. It was at a regular gig as the house band at a certain Boone party locale that the group’s practice of performing in the buff earned them a local reputation as “the naked party band.” They adopted the moniker The Nude Party just in time to move onto bookings at local clubs and bars, where they had to perform clothed.
As word of their rawness and good-times sprit spread, New West signed the group for their full-length debut. “The Nude Party” was released in July of 2018, and was heralded by Rolling Stone as “equal parts ‘I’m Waiting for the Man’ Velvet Underground and Exile on Main Street Stones.” In the year following their release, the band has opened for the likes of The Arctic Monkeys and Jack White, with plans to continue touring with over 150 dates globally in 2019.

The members of Charly Bliss have known each other since middle school, having grown together in their evolution from scrappy upstarts to the confident, assured artists behind the comparatively big, brave and bold ‘Young Enough’.
Charly Bliss recorded and released their debut EP, ‘Soft Serve’ in 2014. This was followed by their self-released candy-coated punk LP ‘Guppy’ in 2017 and time spent out on the road increased, as did the Charly Bliss fanbase, but the essence of the band’s sound didn’t change much.
When it came time to record 2019’s ‘Young Enough’ the band upped the ante whilst also maintaining that sense of irrepressible joy and fun they’re known for. The end result is an album that feels young and joyous but also steeped in depth and maturity.
Catch the band as front woman, Eva Hendricks, spins across that stage like a tornado of joy and rage at Splendour 2019

Despite having such a laid-back and organic sound more informed by musical beauty than muscular groove, Suzanne Kraft has been one of the most prominent stars of the last few of years. Born Diego Herrera and raised in Los Angeles, the humidity and sun of that state looms large over his DJ and studio output.
Formally trained on saxophone, guitar, bass and keys but hypnotised by the one-man-band possibilities of producing on a computer, Herrera’s work has been at the heart of a blissed out and slow motion revolution that has brought real beauty to the dance floor.

Others delve into frustration, disappointment, failed friendships and bridges burned — experiences given voice by four young women who won’t be boxed in. Lastlings is the artistic output of sibling duo Amy and Josh Dowdle.
Self-taught musically, the Japanese-Australian pair have devoted the better part of five years to their craft, fine tuning their song writing and production from their home in the hinterlands of Southern Queensland.

Resisting the pull of the industry, Amy finished her schooling and in 2018 and Lastlings returned with new music and the world at their feet.

Taking influence from Paradise Garage style disco, early 90s house, and anything with a DMX drum kit, their take on dance music is as refreshing as it is familiar. Much like their productions, their sets are centred around music that’s heart is firmly locked in the 80s. Regularly they’ll duck and weave through drum machine disco, groove oriented EBM, afro and italo records, while also paying homage to their peers with more traditional house and techno.
You can catch them regularly on Melbourne’s Skylab radio, where they host their show ‘Two Brothers’, at clubs around Australia or at various Lebanese bakeries around Brunswick, Melbourne.
